Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty is a laser procedure that I perform in the office. It is clinically proven to reduce eye pressures and prevent glaucoma progression and loss of vision. It takes about 10 minutes per eye, is fairly painless, and has minimal risks. It can significantly reduce the need for glaucoma eye drops which are often costly and may have significant side effects. It also improves patient compliance and is usually covered by Medicare and most major insurances. It has the potential of saving many patients thousands of dollars in prescription medicines. This new and improved Selecta laser selectively targets pigmented cells within the trabecular meshwork thereby preserving surrounding tissue and enhancing drainage of aquous pressure, thereby lowering eye pressure. It may be safely repeated several times if ever necessary. The effect of it may last over 5 years in many individuals. I have performed several of these on many patients who were ecstatic to be rid of their annoying daily glaucoma drops! Please set up an appointment if you would like me to evaluate your case and discuss the benefits of this procedure with you.
