Is Your Nasal Allergy Spray Increasing Your Risk for Glaucoma?

April 3, 2016

The DC Cherry Blossoms are in full bloom and springtime is here again :).  Unfortunately so are allergies.  Many steroid nasal sprays are now available over the counter, such as Flonase and Nasonex.  Unfortunately very few consumers are aware of the ocular risks of using these products.  Very commonly, the use of these steroid nasal sprays is associated with an increase in eye pressures, which then increases the risk of glaucoma and vision loss.  Please use these products cautiously and schedule an appointment with your ophthalmologist for an exam and glaucoma check if you need to continue these products for long term use.
